The first hotels were built on the lagoon in the 1960s. Today, Sanur is a quieter alternative to lively Kuta and a more affordable option compared to Nusa Dua. Hotels and atmosphere The best coastal stretches are occupied by luxurious 4- and 5-star hotels with extensive grounds. More affordable hotels are located a little further away from the beach. Sanur is frequently chosen by families, including those with children; the proportion of German-speaking guests is low. Beaches Sanur offers wide sandy beaches with fine, light-colored sand. Thanks to the offshore coral reef, the beaches are well-suited for swimming. The most beautiful sand is found at the beach of the Grand Bali Beach hotel – guests from other resorts can rent sun loungers and towels for a fee. The tides here are very pronounced: at low tide, the water recedes hundreds of meters and the seabed is exposed over a large area. Swimming during low tide is not recommended due to strong currents.
