The Sinharaja Forest is a biologically unique, almost untouched rainforest in Sri Lanka. This biosphere reserve, which covers only twelve square kilometers, is protected by UNESCO as part of the World Natural Heritage. Surrounded by mountains with dense vegetation, bubbling springs, and rushing streams, Sinharaja is rich in a wide variety of endemic tropical rainforest plant and animal species, which are characterized by a particularly high degree of uniqueness.
The forest is also impressive due to its huge trees with perfectly straight trunks that reach a height of up to fifty meters. Amidst lush flowering shrubs, a diverse life of birds, amphibians, reptiles, spiders, butterflies, and numerous insects unfolds.
