The Temple of the Sacred Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – the tooth of the Buddha, a symbol of national pride. Every day, pilgrims from all over the world come to the temple to participate in the ceremonies, and many spend the entire day here. The relic is located in a two-story wooden building in the inner courtyard, the oldest part of the temple. The Sacred Tooth is kept on the upper floor, protected within seven gold-plated shrines that are nested inside one another like a Russian matryoshka doll. The relic itself is not visible.

Today, Kandy is a vibrant city in the heart of Sri Lanka, surrounded by scenic areas that attract numerous visitors.
