Before departure to the UAE: The flight “Your City – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah” takes place according to your issued flight ticket, which specifies the flight number, airline, and flight times.
Since November 11, 2022, proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a PCR test are no longer required for entry into Dubai from any country.
– A printed or digital copy of a valid vaccination certificate (with QR code, excluding US vaccination cards) in English or Arabic for full vaccination with a vaccine approved by the WHO or the UAE (AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Covovax, Janssen, Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik V); or – a printed or digital copy of a valid negative PCR test (with QR code), in English or Arabic, not older than 48 hours before departure; or – a valid medical certificate (with QR code), in English or Arabic, confirming that the passenger has recovered from COVID-19 within one month prior to arrival.
Passengers may be requested to take a PCR test upon arrival and must self-isolate until the result is available. If the result is positive, the instructions of the Dubai health authorities apply.
Entry Documents: All passengers arriving at Dubai Airport (DXB) or Al Maktoum Airport (DWC) must carry the following documents:
– Passport valid for at least 6 months – Valid return ticket for tourist visas or visas on arrival – Each passenger requires their own travel document (children may not be entered in their parents’ passports)
Visa Regulations: Since February 2, 2018, Ukrainian citizens with biometric or regular passports (valid for at least 6 months) receive a free visa on arrival for 30 days. Children may also enter visa-free, except for holders of children’s passports (blue) – these require a visa.
Entry into the UAE: At the airport, a short, painless iris scan is performed as a biometric security measure. Afterward, collect your luggage from the carousel.
Customs Control in the UAE: Allowed per person: – 2000 cigarettes or 400 cigars or 2 kg of tobacco – 2 liters of strong alcohol – 2 liters of low-alcohol beverages
Prohibited: Drugs, weapons, ivory products, as well as video and print materials of an erotic nature. Video and data carriers may be confiscated for inspection. Drones require a special permit. Full veterinary documents are required for pets; many hotels do not allow pets. Import and export of foreign currency is unlimited (except for AED).
Alcohol in the UAE: Alcohol is served exclusively in bars, restaurants, and clubs of 4–5 star hotels. In establishments outside of hotels, alcohol is mostly prohibited. Consumption is only allowed in bars, restaurants, or the hotel room. Public consumption of alcohol, drunkenness, or driving under the influence of alcohol will lead to criminal consequences. A strict ban on alcohol applies in Sharjah and parts of Fujairah.
Legal Responsibility in the UAE: – Insults or threats can lead to up to 7 years in prison. – Insulting a woman is severely punished. – Throwing trash out of a car window costs 3000 AED. – Offers of drugs by plainclothes police occur – Penalty: 2–5 years in prison. – Violations of the law often end in imprisonment, heavy fines, deportation, and an entry ban.
Clothing in the UAE: Tourists must ensure appropriate clothing: – Swimwear only at the beach/pool – In Sharjah: Shoulders, knees, and neck must be covered – Women are not allowed to appear in swimsuits on public beaches in Sharjah
Inappropriate behavior can lead to serious consequences.
Behavior in the UAE: Rude addressing or gesturing toward women is strictly prohibited and punishable. Photographing government buildings, military installations, villas behind high walls, as well as Arab women is prohibited. Permission must be asked before photographing local residents. Mosques may only be entered if they are intended for visitors.
Arab Etiquette: – Remove shoes when entering a house – Praise food and coffee; small refusals are considered impolite – Give and receive with the right hand – Never offer pork or alcohol to Muslims – Do not eat while standing or walk through the streets while eating
Money in the UAE: Paying in Dirhams (AED) is the most cost-effective. Exchange money only at official exchange offices; not with private individuals. The hotel exchange rate is unfavorable – only exchange small amounts there. Keep valuables in the hotel safe. Hotels often charge a 50–500 USD fine for lost keys.
Transport: The public transport network is well-developed (bus, metro, water taxi). Hotel shuttles often take guests to shopping malls or beaches free of charge. Always carry a hotel business card with you. Taxis are cheap (sand-colored taxis), but hotel taxis are more expensive. You can hail a passing taxi – that is cheaper.
Shopping: Haggling is part of the culture – except in brand boutiques. Gold and jewelry prices can be negotiated. For electronics: request a functional test and warranty card.
Beach and Pool Rules: – Do not stay in the sun for too long, especially in the first few days – Sun protection and headgear are essential – You can swim in the sea with a T-shirt; this is prohibited in the pool – Some beaches have “women’s days” – men are not admitted then
