Thiruvananthapuram, one of the oldest cities in South India and the capital of the state of Kerala, is a small, beautiful city that stretches over seven hills and is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation.
The city’s main attraction is the magnificent Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Unfortunately, only Hindus are allowed to enter the interior of the temple.
During the tour, you will visit the Napier Museum (closed on Monday and Wednesday mornings), which houses a unique collection of archaeological and historical exhibits. The Sri Chitra Art Gallery (also closed on Monday and Wednesday mornings), located on the museum grounds, displays works by significant artists such as Raja Ravi Varma, Svetoslav Roerich, and Nicholas Roerich.
In addition, you will visit the central market, where you can buy handmade products, as well as the ethnic village of Veli with a boat jetty, a popular spot for picnics.
Handicraft products such as wood carvings, Kathakali masks, trays, jewelry boxes, the famous Aranmula mirrors, hand-woven saris, and traditional jewelry from the Travancore and Malabar collections. Local specialties include cashews, banana chips, tapioca chips, as well as spices such as pepper, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom.
